Lyrics by Barry Clark
|
The deals we make in desperation are the ones least likely kept; Least that's what she told me when she packed her things and left. Now I talk 'n talk 'n talk 'n talk, but no matter what I say, There's nothing I can say or do to make her change her mind and stay. I tried, I cried, She's out the door. I'd stray, she'd stay, believe when I say "deceit come easy to me" A kiss and a lie, time after time, always so eager to please. Now I talk 'n talk 'n talk 'n talk, but no matter what I say, There's nothing I can say or do to make her change her mind and stay. I tried, I cried, She's out the door. Hangers swing in the closet so bare, half open, mocking me. An empty drawer, the slam of the door, haunting reminders to me. Now I talk 'n talk 'n talk 'n talk, but no matter what I say, There's nothing I can say or do to make her change her mind and stay. I tried, I cried, She's out the door. |
We used to jokingly call this The Stripper Song ... Barry used to sing it, originally, but it thrashed his voice; he gladly gave it up to Eric... but now with Rae in the band, her voice is perfect for this particular number -- she really nails it. Just go through the lyrics and change the "she" to "he" and then we just need to get Rae to the studio to dub in a new vocal track -- viola! This version also features a couple of excellent guest contributions: The amazing Dave Fleschner added the piano track, and our pal Brian "Mr. Fabulous" Lolly blew the harp for us. This is such a solid blues tune we've played it with dozens of friends and colleagues during various jams -- always a crowd pleaser, and always fun to play. Of course, that means we never quite do it the same way twice! (This version, being a rough mix, is chopped at the end -- just a minor glitch in the transfer to CD and not a problem with the master...) |
